  12. Attempting to install a Xircom Credit Card Eithernet + Modem 28.8 on a
  13. Texas Instrument TravelMate 5100 laptop computer using WIN95 I found
  14. that the modem would not work reliably using v.34.  The call would
  15. connect, usually at 26400, but the line would drop shortly thereafter
  16. with any flow of data. The modem's ATI6 display of the last connection
  17. said PHYSICAL CARRIER LOSS.

  19. The modem seems to operate OK if the connection is restricted to
  20. v32.bis, but the speed is reduced to 14400.

  22. The speed restriction was accomplished by setting register S110=5.
  23. The modem manual documentation was not correct.  The manual said that
  24. S110=5 was the default and meant a v34 connection.  The default was
  25. S110=7 and was not documented in the manual.

  27. The modem firmware (ATI3) says the software revision is 3.61[21]
  28.  
  29. Does anyone have any comments or know how to make the modem work
  30. reliably at 26400 or 28800?
